We’re thrilled to have you on board for this transformative journey in education.

Transformative learning is a theory of learning that focuses on deep, profound changes in an individual’s understanding of themselves and the world around them. It goes beyond simple acquisition of knowledge or skills; instead, it involves a fundamental shift in perspective, beliefs, and values.

Complete the Transformative Educator Program and earn 4 stackable badges leading to a certificate of completion authenticated by UCO & Qedex.

As well as providing the added benefits of Transformative Learning to students and society, the Transformative Educator Program will be looking to develop a deep understanding of:

  • Critical Reflection: Individuals engage in thoughtful and introspective examination of their beliefs, assumptions, and perspectives. This involves questioning established viewpoints and considering alternative ways of thinking.

  • Disorienting Dilemmas: Transformative learning is often sparked by situations or experiences that challenge an individual’s existing understanding, creating a sense of cognitive dissonance or discomfort. These “disorienting dilemmas” prompt individuals to reevaluate their beliefs and seek new ways of understanding.

  • Perspective Transformation: The outcome of transformative learning is a significant shift in the individual’s perspective. This transformation can lead to a more inclusive, open-minded, and adaptable worldview.

  • Learning as a Process: Transformative learning is viewed as an ongoing, lifelong process rather than a one-time event. It involves continuous reflection, adaptation, and integration of new insights into one’s understanding of self and the world.

  • Personal and Social Change: The changes that occur through transformative learning are not limited to individual growth. They can have broader societal implications, as individuals who undergo transformative learning may become agents of positive change in their communities.

  • Openness to Experience: Transformative learning often requires a willingness to explore new ideas, challenge preconceptions, and embrace uncertainty. This openness is essential for the transformative process to unfold.
